Initially established in 2013 as the Resilience Learning Academy, affiliated with Amoud University in Somaliland, East Africa University in Puntland and Benadir University in Mogadishu, the academy transformed into a complete development research and learning focused institute in 2015. Sadar works in the sector of research, M&E and knowledge management and transfer within government institutions, donors, civil society, private sector, communities and research centres and universities in Somalia and
abroad. Sadar has offices in Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Somaliland, and all federal member states of Somalia. Sadar has regional collaborative programs in Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan and Yemen. In the past five (7) years, Sadar, in association with donors, Government agencies, World Bank, IFAD, USAID, EU, DFID, Gates Foundation, UN and INGOs, undertook field monitoring, verification, research and technical assessments, which covered over 3000 community sites spread across Somalia.
Sadar has 25 full-time research faculty and staff and over 200 trained Somali speaking research assistants who can access all the areas in Somalia. Sadar research assistants use SMART phone mobile applications, call centre surveys, data collection platforms and analysis packages. They have also implemented data aggregation and reporting through the online platform for data aggregation and online reporting dashboards, which provide real-time results.
